Caretaker gets 38 years for trying to kill WWII veteran – Sarasota Herald

SARASOTA COUNTY — A North Port caretaker has been sentenced to 38 years in prison for the attempted murder of a World War II veteran in 2016.

For years, Elena V. Erickson, 47, cared for Michael Nicholas Tristiano, who is now 93, but according to a police report, they argued April 15, 2016 and she attacked him with a portable aluminum oxygen bottle.

The veteran was found by paramedics in a two-foot pool of blood and urine laying against the wall of his dining room.

Pursuit ends in wreck injuring veteran deputy

PEARLAND — A veteran Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office deputy is in the hospital after being injured while trying to clear an intersection ahead of a police pursuit in Pearland.

Pearland police attempted to stop a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck for a possible drunken driving offense about 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, when the vehicle took off, Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Varon Snelgrove said.

“Our deputy was monitoring the radio and could hear it going down, so he got up in front of the pursuit to try and get an intersection cleared to prevent any civilian accidents, but the suspect’s vehicle struck his unit,” he said. “There was significant damage to our vehicle as well as the suspect’s vehicle.”

Lucas Nelson, 32, of Houston was driving westbound on Bailey Road when he struck the deputy’s Chevrolet Tahoe and another vehicle in the Veterans Drive intersection, Snelgrove said.
