Registration for C of I Community Learning spring courses now open

This spring, classes at The College of Idaho will be in session for more than just its enrolled students thanks to the College’s Community Learning program, which will feature 28 exciting classes open to all members of the community.

The popular program will host a number of unique classes starting in February, allowing the community to continue exploring new hobbies and topics of interest in a relaxed and homework-free environment, led by C of I’s faculty, staff and other expert instructors. From outdoor recreation and the arts to personal enrichment and professional development, the program’s classes appeal to multiple interests across a variety of subjects.

Rebecca Wilhite, the College’s director of special programs, said the program’s spring offerings have proven both popular and timely, falling during a time when the weather is more agreeable and when there are fewer holidays or other obligations on people’s schedules.

Citizens Police Academy Registration Now Open

CHEYENNE, Wyo.(RELEASE)- The Cheyenne Police Department will be hosting a free ten-week Citizens Police Academy that starts on Oct. 4 at the Cheyenne Public Safety Center.

The academy is designed to inform and educate participants in all aspects of law enforcement and include predominately “hands-on” training sessions.

The academy is open to the public and will begin on Oct. 4 and finish on Dec. 6. The classes will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. There will also be two Saturday field classes conducted for firearms and crime scene investigation training.

The curriculum will include training and applications of constitutional law, criminal investigations, narcotics, as well as crime scene processing. Additionally, students will actively learn about defensive tactics, traffic enforcement, gangs and firearms familiarization. Several practical exercises will be conducted so students can actually perform many elements of everyday law enforcement.

Citizen Police Academy Highlights Law Enforcement; Registration Open For New Series

Residents and business people will have an opportunity to learn about the functioning of a municipal law enforcement agency as Newtown Police Department again offers its Citizen Police Academy free informational program to the general public.

The department will offer the course for the 22nd time. The academy will hold ten weekly sessions, from 3 to 6 pm, on Sundays, beginning March 26. Registration is required.

Patrol Sergeant Matthew Wood will lead the course, which provides general information to civilians interested in learning about police work. Sgt Wood, who is one of seven sergeants at the department, joined the organization in 2004. He is a state-certified drug recognition expert.

Subject matter will include a tour of the police station, the police hiring process, police field training, patrol operations, crime prevention, crime scene investigation, a dog demonstration, traffic enforcement, and firearms and weaponry.
