Bellingham Police assist FBI near Fairhaven Park

Bellingham Police gathered evidence in a cul-de-sac near Fairhaven Park with the Federal Bureau of Investigation Wednesday.

Around 10:30 a.m., Bellingham police’s crime scene investigator assisted the FBI document and gather evidence involving a “suspicious circumstance,” according to Lt. Danette Beckley, a police spokeswoman.

Beckley said officers assisted the FBI for about three hours. Whether that was time on scene or included time used to write a report was unclear, Beckley said.

The FBI is the lead agency on the case.

Ayn Dietrich-Williams, public affairs officer at the FBI’s Seattle field office, said she couldn’t comment any further on Wednesday’s activity “given the ongoing nature of our investigation.”

Los Alamos Police Department Det. Sgt. James Rodriguez remembers police officers coming to speak as guests at his high school in Loving and says he found what they had to say about the job intriguing. Even when he studied mechanical engineering at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash., law enforcement was always in the back of his mind.

Rodriguez returned to New Mexico after a year and because he was still not old enough to be a police officer, he became a detention officer at the Dona Ana County Detention Center and soon went on to graduate from the Las Cruces Police Department’s Training Academy in 2004.

In 2005, Rodriguez and his wife Darlene moved to Los Alamos where they both
