Girls found dead outside Telluride were punished for ‘unclean spirit,’ court records show

NORWOOD – Newly released court records give insight into what led to the deaths of two young girls on marijuana farm in Norwood, a tiny town about 30 miles northwest of Telluride.

In September, Makayla Roberts,10, and Hannah Marshall, 8, were found dead at an acreage with a sign out front that read: “The Farmacy a Rastafari Homestead,” according to an arrest affidavit filed by the San Miguel Sheriff’s Office.

The girls’ bodies were found in a car covered with a tarp, according to the affidavit.

Human remains found outside of Ennis

ALMA — After a hunter discovered human remains Saturday afternoon just outside of Ennis, the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office is now investigating a potential homicide.

Ellis County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched at 4:25 p.m. near Section House Road in Alma to a non-addressed parcel of agricultural land. The area consists of planted crops and a small wooded section.

“The responding deputies, shortly after arrival, confirmed the remains to be human,” stated Ellis County Sheriff’s Cpt. Chris Hamilton. “The deputies then contacted the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Division investigators, along with a crime scene investigator to respond to the location.

“The investigators determined that the remains had been scattered over a large area. The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification.”

Hamilton added that the crime scene investigation began at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Sunday. Assisting

Man shot outside liquor store in downtown Sacramento

A man was shot Saturday morning outside a downtown Sacramento cigar and liquor store, the Sacramento Police Department reports.

The incident began with an altercation at Rodney’s Cigar and Liquor Store at 1000 J St., said Sacramento police Lt. Paul Freeman. The shooting was reported at 10:50 a.m. on the sidewalk outside the store.

When officers arrived, they found the victim in an alley across the street from the Shasta Hotel on 10th Street. The man was treated at the scene and taken to an area hospital, Freeman said. He is in serious condition but expected to survive, police said.

The shooter is described as a white man in his 50s, weighing 250 to 300 pounds possibly wearing a baseball cap, Freeman said. He fled the area on foot and is known to frequent downtown, police said.

Wortham trial might move outside Dickson County

The trial for Tommy Wortham, the Bon Aqua man charged with the murder of Eric Baxter 18 years ago, could move to a courtroom outside Dickson County due to difficulties in finding an unbiased jury in the locally high profile case, according court staff and others associated with the trial.

Wortham, 47, is charged with first degree murder and two counts of felony murder in the death of Eric Baxter, 32, who was discovered dead in his Jones Creek home Aug. 20, 1998, the victim of multiple gunshot wounds.

According to the court clerk, Circuit Court Judge David Wolfe on Wednesday was still looking at two options.

One possibility is to move jury selection to another county, possibly Hamilton County, then sequester the jury
