Lawsuit filed against Albany by Albany Police widow

A lawsuit has been filed against the City of Albany by the widow of an Albany Police Officer who died in the line of duty.

Douglas Mayville died four years ago. The 26 year veteran of the force spent years working with chemicals and toxins as a crime scene investigator before being diagnosed with Wegner’s disease.

Though he was honored on several occasions for dying in the line of duty, his wife Linda Mayville said she’s not getting the benefits she deserves, leading to the lawsuit being filed.

“It’s disheartening,” said Linda Mayville. “I think for Doug’s memory, he loved his job and unfortunately he’s not here to do it anymore.”

“What really appalls me is you want to take credit, and make Doug a hero, name a dog after him, and ask her to pose in front of the wall with all of the fallen officers,” said Retiree Chapter Council 82 President James

Widow of former Albany detective plans to file lawsuit

After losing her husband in the line of duty, the widow of a former Albany detective is speaking out. Linda Mayville claims the city isn’t providing her with the benefits she’s entitled to following her husband’s death nearly four years ago.

Mayville is seeking legal counsel and plans to file a lawsuit against the city of Albany if Mayor Kathy Sheehan doesn’t respond by Friday.

In 2008, Linda’s husband, Douglas Mayville, was diagnosed with Wegener’s granulomatosis, and what followed was a lengthy and gruesome medical battle, which has turned into a legal dispute. Mayville served the city as a police officer and later as a crime scene investigator from 1982 to 1997. During those 16 years, the nature of his work led to an exposure of toxic chemicals which would ultimately lead to a painful autoimmune disease known as Wegener’s disease.

According to the State of New York Workers’ Compensation Board, Mayville died

Ex-officer’s lawsuit against APD dismissed

A federal judge has ruled against a former Athens police sergeant who claimed in a 2014 lawsuit that corruption within the department led to his firing in 2012.

In his lawsuit — filed against Athens Mayor Ronnie Marks, Police Chief Floyd Johnson, Capt. Tracy Harrison, former Police Chief Wayne Harper and Capt. Trevor Harris — former Sgt. Jason White claimed, among other things, Harrison and another officer used a police vehicle to pull over a mail truck so Harrison could intercept, retrieve and destroy documents about another man’s arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol before it arrived at the Alabama Department of Public Safety.

White claimed the defendants retaliated against him for speaking out against corruption within the department. He also contended the defendants’ conduct violated his rights under the First Amendment. Meanwhile, the defendants asked the court to decide in their favor.

U.S. District Judge Madeline Hughes Haikala issued a

Orleans Coroner’s Office faces pay lawsuit from fired death investigator

A death investigator fired this year by Orleans Parish Coroner Jeffrey Rouse’s office has filed a federal lawsuit accusing her former employer of improperly denying her overtime pay.

Jennifer Trigueros alleges that Rouse’s office misclassified her as an employee who was not entitled to extra compensation if she worked more than 40 hours a week.

The suit says that “most coroner’s offices in the state of Louisiana” pay those in her position overtime if they work more than 40 hours a week, something she routinely did whenever fatalities were reported at the end of her shift.

Trigueros’ lawsuit says she worked for Rouse’s office from Feb. 2, 2015, to Jan. 9, 2017. She claims she was fired after complaining on Facebook that an unidentified co-worker signing on for the day refused to take over investigating a fatality reported at the end of an overnight shift for Trigueros on New Year’s Eve 2016.
