Detectives with the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Violent Crimes unit have arrested a 58-year-old Santa Rosa transient named Frederick Helmke at about 4:50 pm on Jan. 30 for felony assault with a deadly weapon. The arrest culminates from a call received around 10 pm Friday, Jan. 27. Deputies responded to a residence in the 4700 block of Guerneville Rd in the unincorporated city of Graton regarding a report of a stabbing.

Upon their arrival they found a 55-year-old man with a stab wound to his abdomen. The man lives at that home and was transported to a local hospital where he is expected to survive his injuries. The argument allegedly started when the victim accused Helmke of stealing property from him. A fight ensued and Helmke ended up stabbing the suspect in the abdomen and then fled in his RV.
