Greensboro police investigating shooting at Flowers Bakery Thrift Shop; suspect at large – Winston

GREENSBORO — A man was hospitalized Thursday morning after being shot in his left leg outside Flowers Bakery Thrift Shop. 

Greensboro police spokeswoman Susan Danielsen said the shooting happened at 9:18 a.m. in the parking lot located at 1227 Fourth St. 

Danielsen said police are looking for a man wearing a red shirt and blue jeans who ran from the parking lot.

Danielsen said police took someone into custody but it wasn’t clear how that person is connected to the shooting. 

The victim, whose name has not been released, is in fair condition at an area hospital. Danielsen said the victim was alert and responding appropriately to paramedics. 

The shooting drew a crowd of people who watched officers work. Others were disappointed to learn the store was closed.

“Ugh, I can’t go to the bread store,” one woman muttered out the window as she drove past the crime scene tape.

Cedar Rapids police investigating Dartmouth Street shooting

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) — Cedar Rapids police are looking into a shooting at the Kirkwood Estates mobile home park, which happened around noon, Saturday.

A Cedar Rapids Police crime scene investigations vehicle parked at lot 53 on Dartmouth Street SW.

Officers headed to lot 53 on Dartmouth Street Southwest, finding a person inside with a gunshot wound. Authorities said the victim was taken to a local hospital with “non-life threatening” injuries.

“This is an active, ongoing investigation,” read a news release from Cedar Rapids Police. “The circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation.”

Around 1:15 p.m., officers headed to 1715 Hollywood Blvd Northeast for a domestic disturbance. There, Cedar Rapids police found a vehicle parked out front they believed could have connections to the shooting, more than an hour earlier.

Police investigating burglary after woman finds unknown male in her bedroom early Tuesday in Oakland area of …

Despite running a dog trail, police weren’t able to track down a man wanted in connection with a home burglary early Tuesday in the Oakland neighborhood of northeast Topeka.

No injuries were reported in the incident, which was reported at 4:12 a.m. in the 400 block of N.E. Sumner.

Police Lt. Steve Block said a woman told officers she was awakened to find a man in her bedroom. Block said the woman reported that she initially thought the individual was her husband.

“However,” Block said, “when she noticed the individual was not her husband, a confrontation ensued.”

The suspect fled the residence, but not before taking property from the residence.

A police K-9 unit responded and ran a trail, but weren’t able to locate the burglar.

Bridgman Police investigating two suspicious deaths

BRIDGMAN — The Bridgman Police Department reported that it is investigating “2 suspicious deaths” at 9753 Baldwin Road in Bridgman.

According to a Saturday, Sept. 16, press release, Sgt. Tom LaVanway was requested by a family member to check on the welfare of  63-year-old Donald James Ackerman and Pamela Sue Ackerman, 67, as they had not been heard from in the past few days.

Once Sgt. LaVanway arrived (at 12:47 p.m. Saturday), he made entry into the residence and discovered both victims deceased. The press release stated that the cause of death in both cases was “gunshot wound.”

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department Detective Bureau and Crime Scene Technicians were requested to assist the Bridgman department in the investigation.  

Police reported that: “Preliminarily, the deaths appear to be possibly murder-suicide. The incident remains under investigation and autopsies will be performed in the next few days.”

Authorities investigating homicide along quiet Hammond street

HAMMOND — Officers found a woman dead inside her home Tuesday after responding to a report of someone bleeding at a neighbor’s home, police said.

The woman, who has not yet been identified, was found about 6 a.m. in the home in the 7500 block of Alexander Avenue in Hammond, officials said.

The children who lived in the home were not hurt and are safe, police spokesman Lt. Steve Kellogg said.

Police said the case has been ruled a homicide, but the coroner’s office has not yet released the cause and manner of death or the woman’s identity.

A child’s bicycle lied in the front yard of a home surrounded by police tape. Officers wearing blue gloves could be seen carrying bags of evidence from the home.

HAMMOND — The Lake County Coroner’s office has identified a woman that was found stabbed to death Tuesday in her home. 

Officers found 25-year-old Lucia Gonzales in her home Tuesday after responding to a call from a neighbor about someone bleeding, authorities said.

Gonzales was found about 6 a.m. in the kitchen of her home in the 7500 block of Alexander Avenue in Hammond, according to police and the coroner’s office.

A boy in the woman’s home found her when he woke up and took other children in the house to a neighbor’s home to seek help, Hammond police spokesman Lt. Steve Kellogg said. The boy told the neighbor someone in his home was bleeding, police said.

The children were determined to be unharmed and are safe, Hammond police spokesman Lt. Steve Kellogg said.

Gonzales’ was pronounced dead at 9:20 a.m., the coroner’s office said. Her death has been ruled a homicide.

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. – The Cheektowaga Police Department is currently conducting a homicide investigating on Sierra Drive.

Assistant Chief of Police Jim Speyer says a woman in her 30’s was found dead inside 33 Sierra Drive off Cedargrove Circle of an apparent gunshot wound.
