Police Department gives tour of headquarters – Wilmington Star News

The tours were held Tuesday and Thursday as part of October’s Crime Prevention Month.

WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Police Department opened it’s doors for tours to the community this week.

The tours were held Tuesday and Thursday as part of October’s Crime Prevention Month.

“We realized people are really curious about what’s happening in this building, so we decided to offer some tours,” said WPD spokeswoman Linda Rawley Thompson. WPD moved into its current headquarters on Bess Street in late 2006.

Rawley Thompson led the tour through the 60,000 square foot facility that includes Crime Scene Investigation offices, holding cells, The Sting Center and interrogation rooms.

Orlando police unveil new headquarters in Parramore

After more than a decade in the making and spending $50 million, the Orlando Police Department was not going to have a typical ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Especially when its has a SWAT team with rappelling equipment.

Four team members dropped 50 feet from the roof of the new building at the corner of South Street and Orange Blossom Trail to deliver the over-sized scissors to cut the ribbon.

“I couldn’t be more excited,” said Chief John Mina. “It’s a great day for the City of Orlando and the Orlando Police Department.”
