Initial interrogation

The first witness to be called on the third day of the Commonwealth of Virginia v. David Eisenhauer on Wednesday, Feb. 7, was FBI Agent Travis Witt, who also provided testimony the day before. Before cross-examination of Witt began on Wednesday, Judge Robert Turk instructed the jury to not consider any statements made by Witt during a portion of a tape of his interrogation of Eisenhauer that had been shown in court the day before.

Witt stated that Eisenhauer asked for a lawyer and walked out of the interview room, but was brought back by Blacksburg Police Department (BPD) officers and was not permitted to leave the interrogation room. Part of the taped interrogation was played for the courtroom. In the interview, Eisenhauer states that he did nothing wrong and asks if he would be on the news. Eisenhauer also mentions that he is worried about being associated with the

Santa Rosa educators discuss STEM initiatives during symposium (PHOTOS)

MILTON — Santa Rosa County Public Schools and Discovery Education hosted the Second National Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Symposium Jan. 29 to 31.

Approximately 137 school leaders from 20 states met at the Pensacola Beach Hilton to discuss new STEM teaching strategies and visited area schools, according to Discovery Education Senior Vice President Coni Rechner.

This symposium emphasized core concepts of STEM education: collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking, also known as the four C’s. Many business leaders can teach new employees the mechanics of specific jobs but they can’t cultivate these skills, Discovery Education Professional Development Content Manager Lynnell Matthews said.

“It was a light bulb for many of our teachers and administrators that are here realizing that STEM doesn’t mean science, technology, engineering and math,” Matthews said. “(STEM is) the best practices for

Mayor Pugh apologizes to Harlem Park residents, thanks them for ‘patience’ during extended investigation of …

Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh on Wednesday apologized to Harlem Park residents and thanked them for their “patience” during an extended crime scene investigation in their neighborhood after the killing of Detective Sean Suiter.

For nearly a week after the killing, police officers locked down the neighborhood and required residents show ID to get past police tape to enter their homes. That practice ended Monday, police officials said.

“I thank them for their patience for the length of time that was used to deal with this particular crime scene,” Pugh said.

She added that she spoke with Police Commissioner Kevin Davis to “make sure we’re respecting the neighbors and the people who live in the community.”
